\u00a0 \u00a0Ho, Ho, Ho Good Neighbours, I’m back with another quick blahg before Christmas. I know I said I probably wouldn’t get around to one but I had an idea yesterday and instead of letting that idea die of loneliness, I’m acting on it. In my previous blahg,\u00a0THE TWO AND TEN\u2026A CHRISTMAS GIFT EXCHANGE<\/a>, I presented my newest short story that is also the title of the blahg.\u00a0 In this\u00a0 current blahg, I decided to revisit some old Christmas poems that I have written over the years.\u00a0 Many of these are over 30 years old.\u00a0 Others are bizarre, I have to admit, but I’ll present them as written.\u00a0 In between, I’ll post some pictures of our Christmas decorations this year.\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0First up is a poem I wrote on December 4, 1985.\u00a0 I was playing around a lot with style and indentations back then.\u00a0 I’ll present it as written:\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

CHRISTMAS IN ATLANTIC CITY<\/h4>\n

Craps! \u2013 You lose!<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 I\u2019ve never been<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 to Atlantic City;<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 never been<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 to Vegas;<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 never seen<\/h4>\n

the big names in lights<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 but<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 I\u2019ve woken on Christmas day<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0and found what I\u2019ve needed<\/h4>\n

dancing on our tree<\/h4>\n

That last line speaks of a Christmas Tree.\u00a0 Below are two pictures of our tree this year.\u00a0 The first has the starburst tree topper and the second has the newly purchased star that is the exact same as one we used to have:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

CHRISTMAS IN THE ASYLUM<\/p>\n

They\u2019ve gone out<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and pulled down<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the Christmas Star \u2013<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 –and so it\u2019s all empty up there now.<\/h4>\n

They\u2019ve gone about<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and messed it all up<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 and so the whole day\u2019s ruined<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 but they contend<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the Star had nothing to do with it.<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Christmas is a lot more<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 than that old satellite<\/h4>\n

as soon as they\u2019re finished tossing away<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 getting the same thing<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 every year\u2026<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 but we wish we knew how<\/h4>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 to use it.<\/h4>\n

The reference to the star prompts me to post a picture of our tree in 2020 when our old five pointed star was stilled nestled at the top:\u00a0 <\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0The next Christmas poem, was actually featured in a blahg I published on December 1, 2011 with the title, DAVID LETTERMAN BROKE MY COOKIE<\/a>.\u00a0 The poem was originally written on December 3, 1986 and deserves a reprint.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

dear Santa<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>\n

I was maybe nine<\/span><\/h4>\n

when my parents<\/span><\/h4>\n

up and told me<\/span><\/h4>\n

there\u2019s no Santa Claus<\/span><\/h4>\n

and I suspected<\/span><\/h4>\n

at the time<\/span><\/h4>\n

that they weren\u2019t<\/span><\/h4>\n

bein\u2019 truthful \u2018bout that<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

but now<\/span><\/h4>\n

I\u2019m pretty sure<\/span><\/h4>\n

they were<\/span><\/h4>\n

mistaken<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u2018cause I saw old Nick<\/span><\/h4>\n

the other day<\/span><\/h4>\n

at the mall<\/span><\/h4>\n

and I can\u2019t help wonderin\u2019<\/span><\/h4>\n

if he knows<\/span><\/h4>\n

parents are tryin\u2019<\/span><\/h4>\n

to suppress<\/span><\/h4>\n

his existence<\/span><\/h4>\n

all over<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

and why is that?<\/span><\/h4>\n

what have parents got<\/span><\/h4>\n

against Santa?<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

ya know it just might be<\/span><\/h4>\n

that Nick\u2019s too powerful<\/span><\/h4>\n

fer the average parent<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u2018cause all year long<\/span><\/h4>\n

moms and dads<\/span><\/h4>\n

try to discipline<\/span><\/h4>\n

their kids<\/span><\/h4>\n

without success<\/span><\/h4>\n

but ya mention<\/span><\/h4>\n

Santa<\/span><\/h4>\n

anywhere near Christmas<\/span><\/h4>\n

and control is<\/span><\/h4>\n

immediately established<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

and maybe that\u2019s it!<\/span><\/h4>\n

maybe parents<\/span><\/h4>\n

get their egos bruised<\/span><\/h4>\n

by the idea<\/span><\/h4>\n

of some<\/span><\/h4>\n

white bearded old goat<\/span><\/h4>\n

havin\u2019 more clout<\/span><\/h4>\n

than them<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

and maybe that\u2019s why<\/span><\/h4>\n

after eight or nine years<\/span><\/h4>\n

the kids are told<\/span><\/h4>\n

this lie<\/span><\/h4>\n

about St. Nicholas<\/span><\/h4>\n

bein\u2019 a myth<\/span><\/h4>\n

so\u2019s parents can say<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u201cLISTEN UP,<\/span><\/h4>\n

WE\u2019RE THE BOSS.<\/span><\/h4>\n

THERE\u2019S NO SANTA<\/span><\/h4>\n

JUST US<\/span><\/h4>\n

AND YOU EITHER<\/span><\/h4>\n

LIKE IT<\/span><\/h4>\n

OR LUMP IT!\u201d<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/h4>\n

but I\u2019m not sayin\u2019<\/span><\/h4>\n

I disagree with<\/span><\/h4>\n

this method<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u2018cause at some point<\/span><\/h4>\n

ya gotta outgrow<\/span><\/h4>\n

the need for Santa Claus<\/span><\/h4>\n

and ya gotta depend<\/span><\/h4>\n

on the family<\/span><\/h4>\n

and what they can do<\/span><\/h4>\n

fer ya<\/span><\/h4>\n

and ya\u2019ll be <\/span><\/h4>\n

a better person<\/span><\/h4>\n

more rounded<\/span><\/h4>\n

not in the gut<\/span><\/h4>\n

like Santa<\/span><\/h4>\n

but in yer outlook<\/span><\/h4>\n

sure, the method\u2019s okay<\/span><\/h4>\n

but what if<\/span><\/h4>\n

ya reversed the order<\/span><\/h4>\n

and said right off<\/span><\/h4>\n

right at birth<\/span><\/h4>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 My Christmas poetry output definitely slowed down as I entered the 1990s.\u00a0 The last holiday themed poem was written December 20, 1995.\u00a0 Jeanette and I had been married eight years and we had two children by Christmas 1995.\u00a0 I guess I was busy with other things.\u00a0 That was definitely the inspiration for this poem<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

yule, nativity, frankincense and myrrh,<\/h4>\n

no sharper or gentler than others<\/h4>\n
